My name is Shanell and I am from the US. I first came to China in 2008 shortly after I graduated from nursing school. I started teaching in a small school in Jiangsu province. This was my first introduction to China and teaching and I really enjoyed doing both that year. After I finished my year of teaching, I returned to the US and got a job doing nursing and did some volunteer ESL tutoring for a government sponsored organization.
I had the opportunity to come back and visit a friend who was getting married last October and I realized how much I missed living in China. I decided to move back and find a teaching job. I hope that by completing this class I can gain new ideas strengthen my teaching skills.
I am from Sydney, Australia and I am currently residing in Suzhou.Picture Framer by trade.Had my own business for years, but after my divorce i thought it was time for a career change.Came to China to visit friends, and came to enjoy my time overhere so i have decided to stay.Sports fanatic, with tennis back ground.Taught tennis for 15 years and Physical Education. Now i am hoping to make a career in teaching English.
When i was younger i had a few teachers whom i looked up to(don’t get me wrong,i was not a school buff) whom always tried to get the best out of their pupils and were always available to help if needed, either after school or lunch times.Education gave me a lot of oppertunities in life and now i want to give back.
Hi, my name is Pauline. I’ve been teaching English here in Shanghai for almost 2 years now. Teaching is actually a long way off from my real profession, which is, nursing.
I am a registered nurse from the Philippines. I’ve actually worked as a nurse in the hospital and in a clinic; and, yes, I’ve seen all the blood and gore that comes with it. I have done countless injections, but honestly, I am deathly afraid of needles
. But one day, I grew tired of it, because nurses in our country, are sadly, overworked and underpaid. So I decided to try out a different profession which is teaching.
Ah, teaching. I thought, “Piece of cake”. And English teachers who teach Korean kids in our country earn big bucks. So I tried it out, and I got slammed to reality that teaching is NOT a piece of cake!
But I also realized another thing: that I LOVE to teach! No matter how strenuous it was, I was always rewarded with kids’ laughter and smiles, and angel- like voices addressing me as “Teacher Pauline”, or “Ms. Pauline”.
So, here I am now, continuing my profession as a teacher. I may be far away from home, but I have my students to keep me company with their happy laughter and bright smiles (And, yeah, that last bit may be a little cheesy, haha).
